Sunderland Compact - Funding and Procurement
Funding and Procurement Code of Practice
The Government recognises that the voluntary and community sector can make a significant contribution to achieving the vision of a fair society, with strong communities creating opportunities for everyone. Many voluntary and community organisations enter into a financial relationship with Government to deliver outcomes on its behalf. It is important that the financial relationship is constructed in such a way that allows outcomes to be maximised. The Compact Code of Good Practice on Funding and Procurement aims to influence behaviour in both the voluntary and community sector and Government. The Code does this through setting a framework for the financial relationship and by setting out undertakings for both sides, based on what each side can expect from the other.

It is important that we take the basis of the national codes of practice and localise them to Sunderland. To do this a Funding and Procurement Code of Practice working group has been established. The group will produce the draft text for the Code of Practice documents and also the draft action plans for implementing the Codes. Alan Patchett from Age Concern Sunderland and Janice Gregory from South of Tyne and Wear Teaching Primary Care Trust are leading on this Code of Practice working group.
The Funding and Procurement Code of Practice Working Group has agreed to use the draft Regional Compact Funding, Commissioning and Procurement Code of Practice as the template for our local code of practice. An updated version developed in line with Sunderland's needs and priorities will be posted here in due course.
