Sunderland Compact - Volunteering Code of Practice

Introduction Funding and Procurement Involvement and Consultation
Equalities Codes of Practice Voluntary and Community Groups Volunteering Code of Practice
Key Contacts and Useful Links Events

Both Government and the voluntary and community sector recognise the value of volunteering – volunteering is a freely given commitment of time and energy for the benefit of society and the community. The unique contribution of volunteers adds value to service delivery. Government and the sector want to increase the pool of volunteers, and to recruit more volunteers from under-represented sections of the community. The Code sets out undertakings to enable more people to become involved in varied forms of voluntary activity and offer them the necessary support.

It is important that we take the basis of the national Codes of Practice and localise them to Sunderland. To do this a Community Groups Code of Practice working group has been established. The group will produce the draft text for the Code of Practice documents and also the draft action plans for implementing the Codes. Jane Hibberd from Sunderland City Council and David Curtis of the Sunderland Volunteer Centre are leading on this code of practice.
