Chair - Alan Patchett

alanpathett@acsunderland.org.uk

Alan has been the Director of Age Concern Sunderland (ACS) since October 2002. He manages a staff of over 100, 310 volunteers and ACS provides a huge array of services for older people across the whole city.

During his time as Director he has worked hard to create closer links with Health and Social Services partners, Sunderland Council, LSP partners and other voluntary and community organisations.

He is a Department of Health Champion for Older People, Chair of the Sunderland Volunteer Centre, Chair of the Older People’s Action Partnership Group, Vice Chair of the Home Improvement Agency Management Board, member of the Digital Challenge Project Board and member of the Adult Services Partnership Board.

As a voluntary sector member of the Board of the Sunderland Partnership he actively represents the views of the Voluntary and Community Sector in the City and he is Chair of the Sunderland Community Network Steering Group.

He represents the city on the World Health Organisation Healthy Ageing Sub Network and is a member of several Age Concern national committees.

I am the Chief Executive of a voluntary sector organisation but am also the chair of a voluntary group in my home village of South Hylton. I have been active as a volunteer for over 30 years and my professional background is as a journalist. I am proud to represent the network on the Pentagon Partnership where the sector has an opportunity to have a voice at the sub regional level.

I spent 4 years with Sunderland Samaritans before I became Secretary of the Sunderland Cardiac Support Group. I have been Secretary for the last 5 Years.  I am also on the Heart Rehabilitation Committee of the Sunderland Royal Hospital.  As a heart patient and Secretary of the support group, I am hoping to improve the life of all Heart Patients and their partners.

I work for Education Business Connections as a Contracts Manager and support the network because it allows all VCS organisations in the city to work together to make an effective voice in the City of Sunderland Partnership and wider policy making.
