The Coalfield Forum is a registered charitable community group working in the voluntary sector of Sunderland and is made up of local people, workers and organisations. We are constituted and have an elected Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. We also have acquired funding from Urban II, Big Lottery, Northern Rock Foundation, Sunderland City Council - Strategic Initiative Budget.

Our aim - to promote the benefits of the coalfield communities of Copt Hill (formerly known as Eppleton), Houghton, Shiney Row, Hetton and surrounding areas of Sunderland. Our membership includes statutory, voluntary, community groups and business sectors.
By associating together, the local authorities, statutory and voluntary organisations in common effort in order to improve educational, economic, training, employment, social, health and leisure opportunities and the improvement and development of public and community facilities with particular reference to environmental issues.

Carrying the Community Spirit!

We offer a high quality of service for community groups, voluntary groups and businesses. All of our mini buses are fully accessible. We have 12 and 16-seater mini buses. All our drivers are trained to Midas standard and are fully qualified.

To book with us, you need to be a member, which costs £15 per year and is easily achieved by contacting the address below. We offer 3 sessions throughout the day and details of times and tariffs can found here.

We offer Midas training (Mini Bus Driver Awareness Scheme), PATS (Passenger Assisted Training) also Fire/emergency evacuation training for mini buses.

Pennywell Neighbourhood Centre is situated in the heart of Pennywell, Sunderland, and is a community based project with charitable status, and managed by a community led management committee.

It opened in 1990 and was housed for its first 10 years in a disused council property which had formerly been two semi - detached houses.
Pennywell Neighbourhood Centre has worked hard to establish itself in the heart of the community and strives to offer services which reflects the needs of the community it is in.

In 2000, through hard work and determination of both community people and project staff, the project raised enough funding to move into a purpose built premises, shown below, where the services offered have grown

RUN BY FORMER HEART PATIENTS FOR THE SUPPORT OF HEART PATIENTS AND THEIR CARERS

OBJECTIVES INCLUDE:

  • Establishing and maintaining contact with people who have heart problems.
  • Offering both the patients and their relatives mutual help and support to achieve a realistic lifestyle.
  • Providing a listening ear for both the patient and carer.
  • Volunteers have experienced the pain, fear, uncertainty and trauma that the patient goes through, and the fear and dread that the immediate family suffer.

Volunteers run exercise classes, hold Group meetings, arrange
Coach outings to a variety of local and regional areas and also have monthly walks with trained walk leaders in attendance.
