we can publicise your organisation for free

Did you know that we can publicise your organisation free of charge?

Well, over the pass week or so, I have been working on the SCN members directory on the Sunderland Community Network website.  Here Network members are listed, invited to tell visitors to the site a little about their organisation, maybe add a link to their own website and add their logo or a photograph.

The page is still 'a work in progress', but please feel free to have a look and feedback your comments.  If you would like to add something to the members directory, or if you would like to become a member of Sunderland Community Network, please contact Wendy on 0191 565 1566 or

SCVS logoSunderland CVS EGM and Festive Speed Networking Event

Scheduled for 11th December 9:30 – 12:15pm, Sunderland CVS New Building

With regret, we have had to cancel the above event as the commitments of so many of the sector have precluded their attendance. It is a great shame, but understandable given the time of year.

We are going to reschedule an EGM and event, probably in February, and we really hope that you will be able to come at this time.

In the meantime, we would wish to inform you that Sunderland CVS will close for Christmas on 20th December and re-open on 2nd January 2008.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members for their support during this last year, and wish everyone a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Gillian McDonough, Company Secretary

Hurry - Its not too late to help!!

HELP US TO HELP OTHERS THIS CHRISTMAS …

Donations & New toys received here for distribution to those in need in our community.

On Friday the 23rd of November, The Salvation Army launched the 2007 Christmas Present Appeal. The appeal will run until the 16th of December.

Every year The Salvation Army relies on the generosity of the public to donate gifts and toys for children and young people who otherwise would have little or nothing on Christmas morning. Over many years millions of toys and gifts have been donated and hundreds of thousand of lives have been brightened in the process.

From the 23rd of November to the 16th of December members of the public are asked to drop off a new unwrapped gift for a child aged 0-16 years at Austin House Shakespeare Street Southwick. Local Salvation Army representatives will then distribute them to children and families in need in the area through their own networks, local groups and social services.

For more information about where to drop off your gift in your immediate area, please ring the number below.

Thanks to the generosity of people in Sunderland last year, the Salvation Army here collected 4000 toys and distributed to around a 1000 people and families in this area who might otherwise have struggled at Christmas.

To make sure this happens, specialist, Independent Advisory Groups (IAGs) have been set up to champion those groups who are particularly marginalised and invisible*. In order for the LGB Independent Advisory Group to fulfil this role as champion for LGB people living in Sunderland we are undertaking a ‘scoping exercise’ to find out what organisations exist that provide a service for Sunderland’s LGB community.
